I hope you are all having a great week! My name is Candice Luciano, and I am the Fall Vice President of the Accounting Society here at LMU. I wanted to invite you all to attend our annual Meet the Firms Event, which will be held on September 28, 2017 from 6 pm – 9 pm at University Hall Atrium. Each year our Meet the Firms Event is attended by accounting students, faculty, alumni, and representatives from public accounting firms, private industry, and government. This is a great opportunity where students will be able to network with professionals from numerous different firms.
For freshmen, this is an opportunity for you to stand out and be noticed by the firms, even before recruiting season even begins. Firms are beginning to put forth more and more programs catered to freshmen, and this gives you an opportunity to also get to know the industry and the field very early on in your college career.
For sophomores, the programs catered to you aren’t available until spring, however, attending Meet the Firms is an opportunity for you to build a relationship with recruiters from different firms. Most of you are taking Financial Accounting this fall semester, which gives you insight into what accounting is like. I encourage you to go to Meet the Firms, so that you may see what accounting could provide in terms of your careers. At Meet the Firms, you will be able to speak to professionals from public accounting firms, to consulting firms, as well as even talk to the government departments and see what career tracks are available to you.
For juniors, if you haven’t done a summer leadership program this past summer, then attending Meet the Firms is a crucial opportunity for you, if you are interested in interning the next summer at one of the accounting firms that are recruiting with LMU. Most of the firms hire interns in the fall. For firms, they are only able to interact with a potential intern when they interview them, and whatever happens during the interview is what they are going to use to determine whether or not they would like to extend an internship offer. Going to Meet the Firms puts you in contact with these firms. By making connections with them, it enables them to get to know you outside of an interview. They are also able to provide you with information regarding events that firms are hosting in order to get to know you more.
For seniors, this is your last year at LMU, and most of you are thinking about your post-grad plans. Some of you have interned this past summer, and some of you already have full-time offers. For those of you who are still looking for jobs, I encourage you to go to Meet the Firms, as the firms attending are also looking to hire our students for full-time positions. Some firms may also be looking for winter interns. If you choose to attend, be on the look out for those.
For non-members, the fee to attend is $30. For members of the Accounting Society, there is no fee, although, you still have to register with us to go. As you may notice, the fee to attend the event and the fee to be a member is the same. I encourage you all to join Accounting Society to attend the event for free. Not only will you be able to attend Meet the Firms for free, you will also receive the benefits of being a member (free food at meetings, information regarding career opportunities, etc.).
To register for the event, please email firstname.lastname@example.org the following details:
